Southeast Asia goes its own way.

After an eventful 18 hours of dealing with various airline representatives, and 3 different potential departure times, we made it to SFO. I wasn't feeling particularly fond of Singapore Airlines, but they quickly redeemed themselves! The plane is extremely spacious and comfortable, they have delicious food, plenty of in-flight entertainment, and lots of fun amenities, including socks, toothbrushes and the most luxurious bathrooms I've ever seen on a plane. We also have the row to ourselves which is amazing! (Holly & Taylor: we used your aisle/window seat assigning trick, thanks!)

We landed in Hong Kong for a quick pitstop, and just have a short 3 hours to go until we're in Singapore. We've spent a lot of the flight reading our newly purchased eBook: Insight Guides Southeast Asia. The history, pictures and food recommendations are making me so excited, but my favorite advice so far is the following:
"Your neatly planned itinerary won't usually last more than a few days. It will melt in the boiling sun and sweat of a Bangkok sidewalk restaurant, or be used as a coaster in a Manila folk bar, or left on the beach in Malaysia. Southeast Asia goes its own way. And when you're in it, so do you."
This mentality is what first enticed me to want to take a trip to Asia, so it's a welcome reminder of what to expect, or rather, that we have no idea what to expect. It also makes me feel slightly relieved since we still have a few travel arrangements to determine :D

We made it to Singapore, and spent the last hour catching up with our friends, and incredibly generous hosts, Wen-Ai & Bill, from their gorgeous 40th floor high-rise apartment. After being on the go for 24 hours, we're ready to get some sleep, and can't wait to see what this amazing city has in store for us tomorrow!

Finally about to board at SFO!

Worth the wait--such a nice plane

Gorgeous sunset just above Hong Kong
